Since the start of the month, my body has not been my best pal. Just when I thought I was recovering from a certain sickness, another part of me needs a different medication. This has been the season we are in for weeks now: a different tablet for different aches.
I wouldn't call this a major suffering, but the weakling in me tends to wallow in self-pity over how brittle this body has become. And In doing so, I sin by grumbling and complaining about my current circumstances.
But in all these, God's grace abounds daily - in my husband, who does most around the house at this time, in an employer who has generously allowed me to work from home for weeks, and in a good book that points me to the sovereignty of my God over everything that occurs in my life.
It's hard to grasp, but I know for a fact that even the simplest of my illnesses are appointed - the timing, and manner, and how they have forcefully slowed me down.
This book I'm reading showed how the author suffered in his lifetime. My own struggles are really nothing compared to his. Yet, 'his sufferings strengthened his assurance that God is sovereign over all the afflictions of his people and will bring them safely home.'
I pray to find the same comfort and confidence in my faithful Creator and Keeper of my soul.
